Haiti Well Project
The Haiti Well Project
****Project Update - September 4, 2009 - We have reached our goal of raising $20,000. In October there will be testing done in the Mapou Village area that will help determine the best location to drill the well. When the testing is complete, we will have data that will give a good estimate of both the depth and location of the water table surrounding Mapou Village. Then... start the digging! The final cost of the project will not actually be determined until the well has been dug. We have an estimate but they never know the depth (which determines the final costs) until they actually drill the well. Thanks for praying for this project and thanks to our Hait Well Mission team for their incredible work!! Thanks also to Harvest International for providing leadership with this project. We will update this area as we learn more in the days ahead. *************
Help us build a well inch by inch for the Mapou Village in Haiti.
"O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water."
Mapou Village is located in the mountains on the island of La Gonave, Haiti, which is considered one of the driest places on earth. (approx. 1500' elev.) The majority of the people of Mapou Village practice voodoo as their primary religion. The trip from the village and back to get water takes in excess of two hours! Villagers have to carry the water up the mountain in buckets on the tops of their heads or on the backs of donkeys. Many people suffer from the affects of dehydration and malnutrition.
